Back to school in Hamilton and Niagara today

First Published:

It’s the ‘most wonderful time of the year’ for many in Hamilton and Niagara as children and teachers return to the classrooms.

Students in both regions officially started their 2024-2025 school year today.

The full-French language boards of Viamonde and Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir also kicked off their ‘rentrée’ today.

Some lucky kids got to sleep in one more day thanks to a PA day. Halton District School Board and Halton Catholic District School Board in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills open their doors to students on Sept. 4.

Administrators and teachers will be dealing with more than new students as they attempt to implement the province’s cellphone and vaping bans in their classrooms. The new rules and guidelines are set to go into practice on the first day of school, but questions around their enforcement remain.

Meanwhile, Niagara Police are advising drivers to be vigilant as there will be increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic, including school buses, on the roads.

Parents and guardians are reminded to update their children’s vaccinations with their district public health board or health services department.
