Local athlete wins big at 2024 Dodgeball World Championships

First Published:

Athletes from around the globe competed in the 2024 Dodgeball World Championships this weekend in Austria, including one from Hamilton.

When Veronica Baird was done playing division one softball at the University in South Carolina, she was looking for something to keep her competitive edge.

“Once I graduated I realized I needed to be more competitive. I can’t just retire from this all,” said Baird.

She turned to dodgeball 12 years ago, and since then, she’s become one of the top players in the country.

The 35-year-old was on the court as the final seconds counted down on the big win against their rivals from the U.S. ten games to one.

“Unfortunately they didn’t have their best game, and we capitalized on everything.”

Team Canada will look for a three-peat at the next Dodgeball World Championships in 2026.
