A new video made in Hamilton is highlighting the problem of chronic homelessness in women.

Forty women from the city were interviewed for the “Invisible Project” and spoke about their life while experiencing chronic homeless. All of the women in the video say they need safe and secure housing to help them deal with violence, exploitation, mental health problems and substance abuse. The video was put together to show the need for supportive housing in the city.

The community-based research project was funded through Women’s College Hospital and done in collaboration with the Women’s Housing Planning Collaborative. The video was spearheaded by Mary Vaccaro, a front-line worker at Mary’s Place in Hamilton and also features illustrations by Hamilton artist Sylvia Nickerson.
