22-year-old airlifted to hospital after being stabbed in Welland

A man in Welland had to be airlifted to an out-of-region hospital on Monday after he was stabbed near Niagara College.

Authorities say that the initial stabbing call brought them out to the area of Leaside Drive and Woodlawn Road around 2:30 a.m. where they found a 22-year-old man who had life-threatening injuries.

Paramedics treated the man on the scene before he was taken by air ambulance to an out-of-region hospital.

The 22-year-old is now in stable condition.

Investigators are now trying to track down the man who stabbed him. “Investigation revealed that an adult male had entered a dispute with two males and one male had been stabbed as a result,” reads an update from police put out Tuesday morning.

They add that the two men know each other and that there is no outstanding risk to the public.

At this time, police have not released a description of the suspect.
