Halton police arrest biker on firearm, drug charges

First Published:

Halton police have arrested and charged a man from a motorcycle club with over 54 different offences.

The charges range from storing illegal firearms to possessing fentanyl with an intent to distribute.

Authorities say the biker from the Iron Dragons Motorcycle Club was taken into custody last Thursday following a joint investigation between local and provincial police, as well as Canada’s Border Security Agency.

A police raid carried out at a rural home in Rockwood uncovered a large stash of illegal guns, drugs and other proceeds of crime.

In total, six handguns, four long guns, five pellet guns, two crossbows, two batons, two tasers, two pairs of brass knuckles and three illegal knives were recovered.

On top of the hefty arsenal, police also managed to recover 12 pounds of dried cannabis and 16.6 grams of fentanyl.

Investigators say the man tried to make a break for it when they carried out their search warrant, but their K-9 unit was able to “immediately” apprehend him.

The suspect sustained minor injuries from the dog and was treated in hospital.

Police say 42-year-old Joseph Wells of Rockwood was held in custody and had a bail hearing at a court in Milton on Jan. 12.

“The items seized from this residence represent the true dangers that criminal groups such as the Iron Dragons Motorcycle Club pose to entire communities,” OPP Detective Scott Wade said.

“This is an example of the ongoing collaboration between law enforcement partners in the fight against organized crime.”

A complete list of Wells charges can be viewed on the Halton Regional Police’s website.
