Two Hamilton names are among the latest appointees to the Order of Canada as the latest installment was announced on Thursday.

Governor General Mary Simon announced 78 new appointments to the Order that are given to those who have been recognized as making extraordinary achievements and having demonstrated outstanding dedication to their respective fields.

Ardyth Brott is being honoured for “her contributions to the Canadian orchestral community, and for her sustained support for youth involvement in music.”

Brott serves as the executive director of the Brott Festival, Canada’s largest orchestral music festival that features concerts with the National Academy Orchestra.

Additionally, she is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Law, the best-selling author of a series of children’s books and a dedicated community volunteer.

Ardyth Brott shares three children with Boris Brott, the founder of the festival who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident in April, 2022.

Paul Myles O’Byrne has earned a spot on the list for “his exceptional work in expanding our understanding of and ability to treat asthma, and for his contributions to medicine in Canada as an educator and administrator.”

O’Byrne works primarily in Internal Medicine and Respirology at McMaster University Medical Centre.

Other notable names appointed to the latest list include journalist George Stroumboulopoulos, Willie Adams, the first Inuit senator in Canada, editorial cartoonist Michael de Adder and pollster Nik Nanos.
