Shelter-in-place lifted after police arrest barricaded man in Ohsweken

First Published:

A shelter-in-place order has been lifted after a barricaded man was taken into custody after firing shots at police in Ohsweken overnight.

Six Nations Const. Cody Johnson says reports were received Thursday night of shots being fired and upon arrival, police were confronted by a man with a firearm who then barricaded himself inside a building.

In a post shared to social media, Srgt. Ed Sanchuck says the barricaded person began firing at police officers and no injuries were reported.

The individual was successfully taken into custody a few hours after police first altered the public to the incident. Further details have not been released by police at this time.

The incident forced the closure of Six Line between Chiefswood Road and Tuscarora Road as officers responded. The roadway is expected to reopen shortly.

Residents in the area were asked to shelter-in-place and drivers to avoid the area until the incident was resolved.

This is a developing news story. More to come.
