Emily Vukovic flew to the Florida Keys to tour around for the week.
She started her adventures off in Key Largo- the longest and north most island of The Keys. Visitors can enjoy Key Largo’s tie to the seas by scuba diving, snorkeling, staying in the underwater hotel, see a dolphin and more. While in Key Largo Emily got to stay at the Kona Kai Resort, which is a hidden oasis that you don’t want to miss.
Another great attraction to go to is the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, which is the very first undersea park in the United States. It boasts 74 camp sites, where you can visit with RV or tent. While there you can scuba dive or snorkel and see the underwater Christ of the Deep statue or take a glass bottom boat tour.
Mote Marine Laboratory is one of the coral nurseries in the Florida Keys where they grow their baby coral right on site. Emily got to see micro fragmentation being done on Acorn coral, which helps speed up the growth process by 30-50 times.
Emily’s last stop in Key Largo was to the Key Largo Conch House. The family run, locally owned business in the Florida Keys is celebrating 20 years of award winning food next year. They have won awards- locally and regionally- for their conch fritters, conch chowder and some of their other entrees.
