What’s new in health food and organic products? We found out from the president of the Canadian Health Food Association– Canada’s largest national trade association dedicated to the natural health and organic products industry, Aaron Skelton.
He shared the top four trends that are either already in grocery stores, or will soon be hitting shelves, with a sample of a few products from each trend.
Trend 1- Cafe Culture Comes Home
Brands are providing more options of plant-based and one step options for coffee and tea that can be consumed at home. Two Bears is a Canadian company that is making it easy to have a latte by making a line of ready-to-drink nitrogen coffee beverages. Sproos is another brand that has a ceremonial grade matcha with the added benefits of collagen. Just mix a packet with your favorite milk brand or water.
Trend 2- Rooted in Nature: Clean Hair Care
People are turning more and more to natural products, so why shouldn’t you use all natural hair care. Hello Joyous has come out with a line of new dry shampoos that are made with clay and starches, giving your hair a refresh without the harsh chemicals. Another company is Herbaland, that is treating hair from the inside out with Biotin Gummies. And Jusu is another brand that makes hair putty that conditions with rich butters and wax.
Trend 3- Oat Goes Beyond Milk
Love oat milk? Well there are more products for you to try, like Oat & Mill Ice Cream. All their ice cream is made from scratch and completely vegan. Beyond Moo is another company that is hopping on the oat train, with their Oatgurt. It has a high level of probiotics and the consistency of greek yogurt. And even butter is getting a makeover with Mylko Maple Oat Butt’r.
Trend 4- Ocean Ingredients Make Waves
With people becoming more aware of the health benefits of nutrient-dense ingredients like seawood and moss, more brands are making a splash in Canada. Seed to Surf offers vegan tinned fish by using whole vegetables and seaweed to make seafood dishes. Seatales has responsibly sourced seafood like sardines and wild tuna and Ocean’s Halo are simple seaweed snacks with unique flavours and less packaging which makes it better for the environment.
