Hamilton police arrest 13-year-old after bomb threat at elementary school

First Published:

Hamilton police have made an arrest in relation to a bomb threat that was called in against an elementary school on Monday.

Officers say a 13-year-old was arrested after police traced the call back to a local address where the youth admitted to making the threat.

On Monday around 2:30 p.m., students and staff at Mount Albion Elementary School evacuated but were later cleared to reenter the building before the school day’s end.

The building was already being used to house staff and students from Saltfleet District High School at the time after that school was also threatened on Monday, and resulted in an influx of people needing to evacuate.

Police say there have been 16 threats made against Hamilton schools in the past five days.

“Hamilton Police recognize the importance of school safety and how threats of this nature can be difficult for students, staff, and their families,” Hamilton police said.

“Police take incidents like these extremely seriously and will continue to work closely with school boards to help identify the individuals responsible and lay the appropriate criminal charges where a suspect(s) is identified.”
