In-person | Thursday September 21, 4 – 5:30 PM | Refreshments provided

This panel discussion brings together four generations of clay makers to discuss art and clay in relation to the academy. Artists, educators, and alumni from the Sheridan College Ceramic department Bruce Cochrane (Professor Emeritus), Jess Riva Cooper (faculty), Sami Tsang (artist alumni), and Mariana Bolaños Inclán (recent graduate) will speak to the school’s successes and influence, as well as what needs to be challenged and radically reimagined in craft and design programs.

What skills do we need and value? What skills do we preserve for future generations? What skills do we require for the future? Answering such questions, this lineage of makers will also address the importance of teamwork and the value of social process as much as technical proficiency.

This session is open to everyone—including prospective students, recent graduates, current students, faculty, and local ceramic artists—who are interested in learning more about current craft pedagogies and studio trends.
