Over a million without power following heavy storms in Ontario, Quebec

First Published:

Over a million people in Ontario and Quebec were left without power on Wednesday following a mix of freezing rain and thunderstorms.

A freezing rain warning remains in effect for Quebec City and Saguenay. At 7:30 a.m., Hydro-Quebec says power outages affected 1.1 million homes and businesses.

Transport Quebec says poor conditions forced it to close the Victoria Bridge, which is an essential route that connects Montreal with its southern suburbs.

A travel advisory was issued by Via Ria, stating that power outages and track obstructions caused delays and cancellations in the Montreal-Toronto corridor.
