Hundreds of first responders and the public attended a procession to pay respect to a fallen Ontario provincial officer Friday morning.

The procession carrying 28-year-old Const. Greg Pierzchala’s body traveled from Toronto and ended in Barrie Ont., his hometown.

As the procession started, officers and other first responders saluted Pierzchala outside the coroner’s office.

Hundreds of people from police to members of the public paid tribute along Highway 400 – raising their hands as a sign of respect, as police vehicles passed by with flashing lights.

Pierzchala was shot and killed near Hagersville after responding to reports of a vehicle in a ditch at Indian Line and Concession 14 around 2:40 p.m on Tuesday.

OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk says the two suspects, a man and a woman have been arrested and no other suspects are outstanding.

During a press conference Tuesday evening, an emotional Sanchuk added: “I’m never at a loss for words, but I’m at a loss for words tonight, we lost a family member… a police officer, and you know what, a good community member.”
