Hamilton police say a 39-year-old man is facing several charges after multiple stabbing incidents in downtown Hamilton this week.
The first incident happened Tuesday around 1:30 p.m. in the Robert Street and Catharine Street North area. A 43-year-old man was hit with a machete and sustained life-altering injuries. He is still in hospital.
A second incident happened on Wednesday around 5:15 p.m. in the area of York Boulevard and Bay Street. Police say a 67-year-old man sustained a single-puncture wound after attempting to break up a fight between two unknown men. He remains in hospital in non-ie threatening condition.
In a separate incident, police discovered a 33-year-old man had been stabbed around 5:46 p.m. in the area of 108 York Boulevard. He was also treated in hospital.
In each case, the attacker and victim did not know each other.
Oscar Ovidio Ayala of Hamilton has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, assault cause bodily harm, utter threat to cause death or bodily harm, and 10 counts of fail to comply probation. Ayala remains in custody.
Police say more charges may arise in connection to another incident in the area of the Jackson Square rooftop where a 31-year-old man was stabbed in the leg on Wednesday between 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m..
