Burlington woman arrested in anti-mask protest at Mapleview Mall

A 58-year-old woman is facing charges in connection with an anti-mask protest at Mapleview Mall in Burlington.

Police allege the woman was part of a group of roughly 20 people that walked into the food court seating area of the mall on Dec. 15, 2021, against the direction of security staff on site.

“This group pushed past security and accessed the mall without wearing masks or showing proof of vaccination as required and requested by on-site security,” said police in a news release.

Officers were called to the scene to investigate and no arrests were made at the time.

Police say further investigation revealed a security officer had been assaulted during the protest.

On Jan. 19, a Burlington woman was arrested and charged with assault and mischief.

She has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 9.
