Hamilton playing safe with tobogganing

The city of Hamilton is expected to play it safe when it comes to allowing people to toboggan on city property.

A report that will be considered by council next week recommends that signs be posted to warn people that they will be tobogganing at their own risk.

But the report also recommends the city not revoke a bylaw than bans tobogganing on city property.

The city paid out almost a million dollars after a tobogganer sued in 2013 after being injured on the hill at the Garth Street reservoir.

Councillor Sam Merulla says the bylaw needs to remain in place to protect taxpayers from themselves.
