HAPPENING NOW:
Connection between food and love

This Valentine’s day, Two Black Sheep Oyster Bar in Hamilton is expecting a crowd – hungry for a taste of love – or at least a taste of one of the world’s most popular aphrodisiacs.
“Oysters are sexy. You eat them with champagne, there’s something fun about them, they’re a bit suggestive” says Manager Sue Littleton.
Scientific evidence over whether oysters and other edibles actually have the power of potency is inconclusive but it’s certainly food for thought. Pop culture has taught us there’s a robust connection between food and love. Mango may be a stretch, but honey, chili peppers, and chocolate have all been studied for their ability to influence libido.
Research from the University of Guelph hails saffron and ginseng as true aphrodisiacs but suggests the impact of eating other “enhancers” is likely the placebo effect.
