Hamilton police begin wearing body cameras

Hamilton police have officially started using body-worn cameras after the police board approved nearly $10 million for the project in June 2024.

All officers are set to be equipped with the cameras by mid-April.

“Body-worn cameras play a crucial role in fostering public trust and enhancing community safety,” police said in a post on X.

According to the Hamilton police website, officers are being instructed to have their cameras clearly visible, with lights and indicators showing when they’re recording.

They are expected to give notice that the camera is activated when it is safe to do so.
