Passionate speeches ahead of announcement of new Liberal leader

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gave his farewell speech to Liberals just before former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney was announced as his replacement.
Trudeau nodded to the challenges Canada had faced from the last decade, including the Covid-19 Pandemic, and says he is confident Canada will emerge from this latest existential challenge even stronger.
“Make no mistake, this is a nation defining moment,” he said. “Democracy is not a given, freedom is not a given, even Canada is not a given. None of those happen by accident, none of them will continue without effort.”
His daughter, Ella-Grace Trudeau introduced her father to the crowd before his final speech.
She went on to say that she wouldn’t trade the last few years for anything and that she is proud to have seen her father fight for Canada.
Leading into the announcement of who would lead the liberal party into the future, former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien also took to the stage to reprimand U.S. President Donald Trump.
“From one old guy to another old guy: stop this nonsense!,” he said.
He continued to say, “my mother taught us good manners. She would be ashamed of me if I treated anyone the way the president treated my prime minister and the president of Ukraine in the last few weeks.”
Chrétien praised the outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Canada’s Premiers for their strong leadership in standing up to the ongoing hostility.
