The diagnostic imaging centre at St Joseph’s hospital in Hamilton got a new name – and $1 million – courtesy of the DiCenzo family.

The centre at the Charlton campus will now be called the Antonio and Maria DiCenzo diagnostic imaging centre. The $1 million gift adds to fundraising to renew the space and build a state-of-the-art surgical centre.

Anthony DiCenzo says personal loss led them to contribute in particular to the imaging effort. “The diagnostic imaging centre is something near and dear to us.”

“My mom passed from cancer 7 years ago. At the time the diagnoses took time to come, in the state that she could actually be treated. By then it was too late.”

“We wonder if we had a facility like this was around back then maybe something would have been found a bit earlier then and we could have had her for a little bit longer. We’re hoping that this facility will be able to give other families that same hope.”

DiCenzo says while his family built its business providing homes for people, health care is an even more important focus.
The centre is one of the busiest departments at the hospital. It performs more than 200,000 procedures a year.
