It’s a great weekend to stay in Hamilton.

Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway will be closed for 35 hours between Friday and Sunday.

The closure begins at 11 p.m. Friday and will last until 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

City officials say the decision to close the roadway will help alleviate future closures along the thoroughfare.

“This one-time, 35-hour closure lets us do the work of over 30 overnight lane closures all at once, which means less hassle for drivers and saves money,” the city said in an update on social media.

Road crews will be out in full force during this time, fixing cracks and potholes, replacing guard rails, and removing loose concrete from the expressways’ underbelly. Additionally, repairs will be carried out on the Dufferin Street Bridge.

The City of Toronto also said it will deploy several traffic agents and adjust the timing of the traffic signals to alleviate traffic on alternative routes.

One displeasured Toronto resident tagged CHCH News in an email to Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, reminding her that the Toronto Blue Jays have several home games scheduled for that period.

For anyone in Hamilton looking to alter their plans given the news, there are several events taking place throughout the city during this time.

On Saturday at 3 p.m., the Germania Club of Hamilton will host the Steel City Oktoberfest in the Hammer. The event purports to feature an afternoon full of “beer, bratwurst, and good times.”

Hamilton Comic Con is also returning to the city this weekend. The event features several celebrity guests, including Lou Ferrigno, who starred as The Hulk in the original 1978 television series. Tickets can be purchased on the event’s official website.
