After being cloistered from the bitter cold last winter, this is the time of year, when it’s nice to get outside and do something, even if it’s just something on the streets of the city.

On Sunday, the “Open streets Hamilton” festival on James Street North allowed people to get active.

Hula hooping, biking, Zumba or rollerblading; you name it, active was the theme.

“Open streets Hamilton” featured the Hamilton Bike Share program and their high-tech bicycle with an old school look.

Some of the tech included a GPS, fitness calculator, drive-shaft instead of a chain, and puncture resistant Kevlar tires.

“You have a smart card, you go up to the bike and you swipe it,” Chelsea Cox with SoBi said. “Hop on and do your one-way trip.”

The Hamilton Bike Share program will be operated by SoBi, a non-profit organization, and will begin with 100 different bike stations, and 750 bikes, located in the lower city.
