With heavy rainfall pushing Lake Ontario to record high water levels, Oakville is latest area in the GTHA to see damage from waterfront flooding. The town is now advising people to stay far away from the water.

Around 11 o’clock Thursday night, fire fighters and the Town of Oakville were called to help homeowners after powerful waves damaged a number of lakefront homes..

Janice Lochan says Thursday’s storm demolished what was left of her break wall. She’s been trying to rebuild for weeks, but says the weather hasn’t let up for long enough for that to happen. And damage from the extreme weather has been felt throughout the city.

At Bronte harbour many of the docks were partially or fully submerged Friday. The town has also took precautions by closing off a number of Oakville’s parks, piers and lakefront paths.

Oakville also had to move it’s Annual Children’s Festival in July from the now-closed off Coronation Park, to the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre. which is located a safe distance from the unpredictable waterfront.
