The Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police says there is no evidence thus far that personal or operational data was stolen during a recent cyberattack on the national force’s systems.

“Based on information that we’ve gone through, there’s no data that’s been extracted from the systems, which is the good news,” RCMP commissioner Mike Duheme said after being briefed on the security breach that targeted the force’s networks.

A criminal investigation into the breach was launched by the RCMP last Friday, with the force calling the magnitude of the incident alarming.

Following an event on Tuesday, Duheme said personnel were working around the clock throughout the weekend to probe the attack and that those efforts are continuing.

Last week, the RCMP said it would work alongside Shared Services Canada and the Communications Security Establishment, the national cyberspy agency, to assess the full scope of the breach.
