Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance Randy Boissonnault introduced the new Federal Tourism Growth Strategy to build back tourism after the industry took hits during the pandemic.

The new strategy, also known as “Canada 365: Welcoming the world. Every day” will have five priorities leading the way to reach the full potential of Canada’s tourism industry.

The new strategy will include investments into Canada’s tourism assets, attracting more international events and the introduction of a new federal ministerial council on tourism.

A key pillar brought through this announcement is an emphasis on partnering to grow Indigenous tourism across the country.

President and CEO of the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada Keith Henry says that expansion and investment into Indigenous tourism has “enormous potential and is reconciliation in action”.

Minister Boissonnault says the strategy has been created through consultation with a variety of groups, including tourism businesses, Indigenous partners, other government branches and tourism marketing specialists.

Destination Canada is predicting that the tourism industry will fully recover by 2024 domestically and 2026 internationally.
