Hockey Canada has announced that its CEO Scott Smith and the entire board of directors have stepped down.

In a statement, Hockey Canada says the board of director’s and Smith’s departure is effective immediately to “make room for a new slate of directors.”

An interim management committee will be put in place until a newly constituted board appoints a new CEO.

The board will ask its members to select a new slate of directors during a virtual election scheduled for December 17.

Scott Smith had come under fire recently for Hockey Canada’s handling of an alleged sexual assault involving members of the 2018 men’s national junior team.

The announcement comes just three days after interim board director, Andrea Skinner resigned following days of parliamentary committee hearing in which she defended the organization’s leadership.
