Canada announced an additional $100 million in humanitarian assistance in response to the Ukraine crisis.

The announcement was made by Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, at the virtual joint launch of the Humanitarian Flash Appeal and the Regional Refugee Response Plan for Ukraine.

“The lives of the children of Ukraine have been thrown into chaos. Their classrooms have been replaced by bomb shelters. Their playgrounds have become battlefields. Their beds have become the hard ground. As Canadians, we have stepped up and will continue to do so,” said Sajjan in a statement. “-we will continue to be there for our Ukrainian friends and partners during this difficult time.”

The federal government says the support will help provide emergency health services, protection, support to displaces populations and essential life-saving services such as shelter, water, sanitation and food.
