Premier Kathleen Wynne talked school nutritional programs at a Toronto elementary school this morning.
Her government announced yesterday that it’s expanding and enhancing its student nutrition programs to include 56,000 more children in high-needs schools. The province is making an initial investment of $32 million over the next three years. It’s part of a five-year plan to improve the program.
“The reality is that there are kids who come to school and one of the teachers said this morning that they ask what’s going to be served. They’re waiting for that snack that morning, (it) may be their only breakfast that they get.”
The breakfast program will also be expanded to 95 federally-funded First Nations schools in Ontario.
