The Winnipeg Jets defeated the Edmonton Oilers 6-5, Saturday, as part of the NHL’s Heritage Classic at Investors Group field.
The alumni game saw Jets greats like; Dale Hawerchuk and Teemu Selanne lace up against stars from past Edmonton Oilers teams.
Selanne scored twice, including a winning goal with only four seconds left on the clock. He also scored the game’s first goal on a penalty shot according to several news reports.
When deciding on an opponent for the game, Jet’s owner Mark Chipman said it had to be the oilers.
Fun fact – of the five Stanley Cups, the Oilers won beating the Winnipeg Jets in the playoffs every time.
The “Great One” himself, Wayne Gretzky, took part in the big game.
The Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic will be held on Sunday October 23, in Winnipeg.
