McCarthy’s husband Ben Falcone directed the film, which was based on a character McCarthy created during her time in the Groundlings comedy troupe. Critics were pretty cool on the film with it currently holding a 22% Rotten Tomato rating, but it was a modest hit at the box office bringing in $78.6M worldwide. The Blu-ray release includes an unrated cut of the film with deleted and extended scenes added in, plus special features including a taping of one of McCarthy’s Groundlings sketches as Michelle Darnell from 2005, a piece about the character’s origins, and a spotlight on Peter Dinklage showcasing his sword fight and stunt training, eclectic wardrobe and hair styles.

Sing Street

With his films like Once and Begin Again, John Carney is singlehandedly keeping the musical genre alive. He continues his crusade this year with Sing Street, an 80s set Irish film about a young lad who forms a band in the hopes of wooing a local girl. The film premiered at Sundance before playing at the Dublin and South By Southwest festivals and then hitting theatres on April 22. Included on the release are a short making-of featurette and behind the scenes audition footage of the film’s young cast.
