New cell phone video has surfaced of a police shooting of a black man in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and we should warn you it’s graphic. It shows two police officers tackling 37 year old Alton Sterling. Seconds later someone yells “he’s got a gun” and police opened fire.
Officers arrived after a 9-1-1 call claiming someone selling CD’s and wearing a red shirt threatened him with a gun outside a convenience store.
The police chief says Sterling was armed, but that is something the family’s lawyer questions. The officers involved are now on administrative leave and city officials are turning over the investigation to the U.S. Justice Department, including body camera video from the officers.
Sterling is a father of five. People who live in the area say he was a regular fixture in the neighbourhood and has been selling CD’s in front of the Triple S Food Mart for about six years.
