The Portokalos family returned to the big screen this year after a fourteen year absence, but couldn’t make nearly as big of an impact on the box office as they did the first time around. The sequel grossed just shy of $89M which pales in comparison to the original’s $368.7M. The critical response plummeted as well – 76% on Rotten Tomatoes for the first film compared to the sequel’s 29%. If you liked the first one then #2 will probably worth your time. The release includes two featurettes, “My Big Fat Greek Dinner” and “Making the Greekquel”, and a gag reel.

Terrence Malick’s films are well suited for home viewing; the auteur’s cryptic narratives can leave you confused but at least at home you can rewind and reflect on them. Judging by the film’s 46% Rotten Tomato score, critics were just as puzzled. In simple terms, the plot features a depressed screenwriter as he goes on a self-reflective journey via eight encounters with family members and different women, and each encounter is named after a tarot card. All in all a pretty light movie for lazy Sunday viewing. The home video release doesn’t include any special features to help decipher the film, so get your critical thinking cap on and just dive in.
