With five days left in the federal election campaign, the leaders continue to focus on Southern Ontario. Almost one third of the seats up for grabs on Monday are in this region. This morning Liberal leader Justin Trudeau was campaigning at Mohawk College, and Conservative Stephen Harper was at a Brantford tool and die factory. Lisa Hepfner more on what the leaders were saying.

Justin Trudeau started the morning in the robotics lab at Mohawk College, and then got to his message. “This is Stephen Harper’s eighth election. He’s running for a fourth term as P.M. His government is out of ideas, out of touch.

The polls have Trudeau winning a minority government at this point, but the liberal leader won’t discuss a coalition with the NDP. “It’s Canadians who get to choose what their government is and what their parliament looks like. They don’t want politicians organizing backroom deals around who gets to wield power.”

The NDP leader was in Nova Scotia shoring up support for incumbents who face tough fights. Tom Mulcair says he still believes this is a three-way race.

Meanwhile in Brantford, Stephen Harper continued to ignore the NDP. The Conservative leader was asked how he can be opposed to modernizing drug laws, and at the same time, support admitted former drug users Rob and Doug Ford, who are holding a rally for Stephen Harper this weekend. “I think our position on these issues is very well known, and the support of these individuals for our party is longstanding. ”

Harper also dismissed criticism of his handling of journalist Mohammed Fahmy, recently released from jail in Egypt. The leader said he intervened regularly in the case, and is glad the matter is resolved.
