TIFF 2015 Lineup Announcement

Yesterday the Toronto International Film Festival announced the first slate of films that will be headlining the marquee event this September. The announcement focused on two of the festival’s biggest and most high profile programmes, the Gala Presentations and Special Presentations, and included films from a number of countries including France, India, Ireland, China, Palestine, and of course Canada.

The Gala Presentations screenings will be shown at Toronto’s Roy Thompson Hall and will feature some of the biggest names walking the red carpet. Jean-Marc Vallée’s Demolition, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as an investment banker dealing with family tragedy in unexpected ways, will open the festival. Other films selected to the programme include Ridley Scott’s The Martian, Gavin Hood’s Eye in the Sky, Stephen Frears Lance Armstrong docudrama The Program, Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall, and the latest films from noted Canadian directors Deepa Mehta, Paul Gross, and Atom Egoyan.

The Special Presentations programme features a number of equally high-profile premieres and big name talent. Festival patrons will get to see a number of films ahead of their theatrical releases including Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario, Cannes Palme d’Or winner Dheepan, Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl starring Eddie Redmayne, Michael Moore’s latest documentary Where To Invade Next, and Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts of No Nation which is being released globally by Netflix on October 16. International films are well represented in this programme as well with selections like The Idol from Palestinian filmmaker Hany Abu-Assad, Zhang-ke Jia’s Mountains May Depart, and Youth from Academy Award winning Italian director Paolo Sorrentino.
