Canadian man shot & killed after Kentucky derby

3 suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of 49 year old Scott Hunter who was shot and killed after the Kentucky Derby. Scott, a Hamilton native, was on the trip with a friend ironically crossing an item off his personal bucket list.

Scott Hunter was always up for an adventure, so it was no surprise that when a friend called and said he had tickets for the Kentucky Derby Scott was ready to go. The surprise came when Scott and his friend were heading back to their hotel, they were confronted by a robber a brief scuffle ensued and according to detectives Scott was shot twice in the chest.

“I asked him what happened and he told me they were targetting tourists, seems to be the case when the Kentucky Derby’s down there and my brother was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Says Scott’s brother Peter Hunter.

Scott owned a coffee shop on Gerard street East in Toronto, where today a book of condolence was set out for regulars who knew Scott well. Joelle Murray, was his business partner, “he was amazing. He was fun. He was cantankerous.”

3 suspects have been arrested and charged with murder in the case. 18 year old Fahed Abu-Diab his 20 year old sister Fatima Abu-Diab and her boyfriend 19 year old Thomas Tyrone. Authorities in Kentucky are still processing paper work, to allow Scott Hunter’s body to be returned to Canada. No funeral arrangements have been set.
