The Valley Below is a Canadian anthology film written and directed by first time feature filmmaker Kyle Thomas. The film is comprised of four short films detailing the lives of different character in Drumheller, Alberta. Kris Demeanor, Stephen Bogaert, Mikaela Cochrane, Alejandro Rae, Joe Perry, Lori Ravensborg, Alana Hawley and Mandy Stobowas star.
THE VALLEY BELOW is a multi-narrative drama that chronicles the life of a small town in the badlands of Alberta over the course of one year. The story is told in four chapters, each focusing on a different set of characters, including a pregnant teenager, a hard-drinking musician, a reclusive taxidermist, and an ambitious police officer. The film¹s intertwining stories combine to render a rich portrait of rural life in central Alberta.
Four Canadian musicians were asked to score each different chapter of the film: Rae Spoon, Dan Mangan, Eamon McGrath and The Wooden Sky’s Gavin Gardiner. The film was honoured at the 2015 Canadian Screen Awards picking up two nominations: a Best Supporting Actor nod for Kris Demeanor and a Best Original Song nomination for Dan Mangan’s song “Wants”.
