The Ontario government says unemployed Canadians are at risk of losing programs that help them find jobs, unless Ottawa steps up. Provincial colleges, training and universities minister Brad Duguid says there is only 40 days left before funding for job training programs run out.
“I would say that I was disappointed by the tone taken after the budget. At the same time it’s, I mean the proposal put forward by the provinces is inherently reasonable and if the federal government believes that their priority is out of work Canadians, getting them back to work, then I am hopeful.”
The proposed grant would provide $15,000 to each eligible worker – a cost that would be divided equally among Ottawa, the provinces and the employers.
