Gabe Polsky only has a few credits to his name, but he is also an Emmy nominated producer and has developed a working relationship with famed director and documentarian Werner Herzog on the set of The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans. Herzog is now executive producing Polsky’s new documentary Red Army, which details life in the Soviet Union during the cold war through the eyes of their top hockey players, including former team captain Slava Fetisov.

The film premiered at Cannes last year and screened at Telluride, the New York City film festival, and TIFF, which is where we talked to Polsky about the film and his interactions with the authoritative Fetisov.

Red Army opens Jan 30 in select theatres.
