Producers Guild of America Nominations (Updated)

As award season heats up the Producers Guild of America announced their annual awards nominees. The Award was established in 1990 to honour PGA members for outstanding work. While the PGA awards don’t have as much fanfare as the Golden Globes or SAG Awards, the winners for best feature length film and best animated film often go on to win the Academy Award for their category.

The guild awards are a great reference when trying to figure out who’s going to go home with Oscar gold. The PGA winner for the past  7 years has gone on to win the big prize at the Academy Awards.

The most noticeable snubs this year are Interstellar and Unbroken.

Update Jan 26: Birdman has won the PGA award for Best Movie.

Whiplash

Selma, the biopic of Martin Luther King JR, is not nominated for a PGA for best picture. It’s not a true snub since the film (or more specifically, its production group, Plan B Entertainment) will receive the 2015 Visionary Award. The film’s producers being honoured are Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. The Visionary Award recognizes producers for their contribution to our culture through inspiring storytelling and performance.

The PGAs take place on January 24th in LA, California.
