The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared

The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared stars Swedish funny man Robert Gustafsson as the title character, Allan Karlsson. A centenarian who unwittingly escapes his retirement home on his birthday.
After living a life of accidental adventure the mild mannered Allan recounts his unusual life to new friends he meets after his escape. A little on the slow side with a penchant for blowing things up, Allan absent mindedly thwarts a motorcycle gang and other criminals on his trail after mistakenly stealing millions of dollars from them.
Director Felix Herngren adapted Swedish novelist Jonas Jonasson’s best seller for the screen. Here is what he had to say about bringing a beloved story to the big screen:
It is always difficult to adapt a book to film, says Felix Herngren, but I could not resist ”The 100-Year-Old Man…” when I got the chance. It is a delightfully twisted story with rich characters, and situational comedy at its best. I know the expectations are high for the film, and this is of course tough, but I’d rather shoot a good story with high expectations, than an unloved story without expectations.
Much like the novel of the same name, the film found incredible success in its native Sweden – becoming the highest grossing Swedish film of all time.
The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared is rated 14A and gets a limited release (Toronto, Ottawa, and Vancouver) on October 10th.
