British Columbia’s justice department wants a man charged in the Amanda Todd case to be tried in Canada.

They will ask the federal government to ask to extradite the 35-year-old man arrested in the Netherlands. The RCMP have laid five charges against him, including pornography, extortion, criminal harassment and internet luring.

The case gained international attention when 15-year-old Amanda Todd killed herself in 2012. Before her suicide, she posted a video explaining how she was bullied after a man convinced her to expose herself online.

Since the man is charged in more than one country, B.C. may run into the legal principal that a suspect can’t be tried twice for the same offence.
