Divergent

Hitting theatres this weekend is Divergent, an adaptation of the young adult novel written by Veronica Roth. The film takes place in a futuristic Chicago where society is divided into factions based on different personality traits. Shailene Woodley stars as Tris, a girl who joins the warrior class called Dauntless and helps to overthrow an evil government. The film co-stars Kate Winslet, Theo James and Miles Teller.

Divergent is the first in a trilogy of books, and work is already underway on the corresponding movie sequels. The first, Insurgent, will be directed by Robert Schwentke, who last directed the disappointing R.I.P.D. That sequel is currently slated for a March 20, 2015 release, while the final film, Allegiant, is penciled in for March 18, 2016. Summit Studios has said that they don’t plan on splitting the final novel into two films, unlike The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.

Divergent is rated PG.
