Speculation about sale of Argonauts

The Toronto Argonauts could be sold within the next few weeks to either Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment or its chair, Larry Tanenbaum.

Talks between current owner David Braley and MLSE reportedly reached the point in December where the MLSE board voted on whether to acquire the CFL team.

No decision was reached, but MLSE could revisit the matter, or Tanenbaum may purchase it himself.

A sale to MLSE or Tanenbaum could make the Argos part of the plan for a re-designed BMO Field. The team leaves the Rogers Centre after the 2017 season.

Braley said last September that he was interested in selling the Argos and the other CFL team he owns, the BC Lions, by the time he turns 75. He also resigned his seat in the Senate last fall.
