News of Justin Bieber’s arrest and the charges he’s now facing were top of mind for Premier Wynne Friday. The government was holding a news conference to officially launch its ‘Healthy Kids Community Challenge’ which aims to help children be more active and healthy by providing funds to communities. But during that news conference, the Premier was asked about Bieber and his DUI arrest.

Somewhat surprisingly, she had quite a lot to say: “Well, it’s hard for me to think about Justin Bieber who is such a talented young Canadian kid from Stratford. It’s hard for me to think of him other than as a mom. And he’s a 19-year old boy, young adult who’s really been on such a fast track since he was 14-years old. I really hope that there are people around him with the love that are going to be able to circle around him with the love that he, I know deserves and needs, and help support him so that he can get on track and stay on track. He’s got the potential of a hugely successful career ahead of him and I just hope that the whirlwind that he lives in doesn’t prevent him from being healthy. Today, we are talking about healthy kids so I know he’s 19 and Deb reminds me that he’s an adult and I get that. But you know, I see him as a very young adult who still needs some support from the people who love him. And I really hope he gets that.”
