The nominations for this year’s Academy Awards were announced this morning.

The con-artist comedy American Hustle and the 3D space thriller Gravity lead the Oscars with 10 nominations each, including nominations for best picture.

Some of the other nominees for best picture include 12 Years a Slave, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Nominated for best actress are Amy Adams for American Hustle, Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine, Sandra Bullock for Gravity, Judi Dench for Philomena and Meryl Streep in August: Osage County.

For best actor: Leonard DiCaprio for The Wolf of Wall Street, Christian Bale for American Hustle, Bruce Dern in Nebraska, Chiwetel Ejiofor for 12 Years a Slave, and Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club.

While Jean-Marc Vallee’s Dallas Buyers Club nabbed a slew of other Oscar nominations including best supporting actor, the Quebec filmmaker was shut out of the best director category. However, his indie film about HIV-positive activist Ron Woodroof has vaulted him into the spotlight with prominent nominations ahead of the glitzy bash. Dallas Buyers Club also earned nods for best original screenplay, film editing, and makeup.

Two other Canadians, Owen Pallett and Arcade Fire member Will Butler scored a nomination for best original score for their work on Her.
