The CRTC has wrapped up a five month investigation against 85 companies for violating Canada’s telemarketing laws.

The national regulator issued citations to 74 telemarketers who had failed to register with the national do not call list operator or subscribe to the national do not call list.

Another 11 companies were fined $41,000 for more significant breaches.

In setting the penalty amounts, the CRTC recognized that many of these telemarketers are small businesses.

To date, the CRTC’s efforts have yielded more than $2 million in penalties.
