Canadians of all political stripes wish the federal opposition leader a speedy recovery.
Jack Layton, the charismatic leader of the NDP, is temporarily stepping down for more cancer treatments.
All that is known is that it’s non-prostate cancer.
The 61-year-old Layton was battling prostate cancer and had hip surgery before the spring election.
Looking weak, thinner and speaking with a raspy voice, Layton acknowledges his health has deteriorated and he’s been in pain.
He says he’s going to fight this now so he can return to fight for families when Parliament resumes.
Prime Minister Harper is among the many wishing Layton a speedy recovery.
In the PM’s words “Mr. Layton is passionate about his convictions and the future of our great country. I would like to wish Jack a successful recovery so he can quickly return to his post”.
