A stretch of Highway 140 in Welland was closed off for 7 hours on Sunday following a deadly crash. Three cars and five people were involved.

It happened around 4 o’clock in the afternoon at Netherby Road and Highway 140 which about 25km south of Niagara Falls. A woman, who has not been identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people were taken to hospital with serious injuries and two more were treated for minor injuries.

It’s not clear what caused the crash that sent a gold Sedan into a ditch and a pickup truck into the air and on its roof but it was the second in 2 days on this stretch of highway. Police were called to a two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning about a block away from Sundays crash site. The impact was so strong it took out a lamp post.

Netherby road is controlled by a stop sign and people in the area say they are not surprised about the crash, saying it’s a dangerous stretch of highway. It’s not clear if any charges will be laid.
