Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a person has died following a crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) Friday morning.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says police responded to the two-vehicle crash involving a car and a transport truck shortly after 6 a.m.

Investigators learned that at the time of the crash traffic had been moving slowly through the area due to construction.

“The transport truck was slowing or stopped and then it was rear-ended by a vehicle,” Schmidt said in a video on Twitter. “The vehicle subsequently came to rest on its roof. The driver of that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.”

He added the driver of the transport truck was not injured in the collision.

The Fort Erie-bound lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours with all traffic being diverted at Fruitland Rd.

The highway has since reopened.

Police are urging anyone with information or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to contact Burlington OPP.
