Man beaten with baseball bat during assault in Oakville

UPDATED
Halton police say a 51-year-old has been taken into custody in connection with an overnight assault in Oakville.
Officers were called to a home in the area of Newcastle Cres. and Pine Clen Rd. around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police learned a man had gone to the home of the 51-year-old just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Halton Police continue to investigate in the area of Newcastle Cr/Pine Clen Rd. Residents are asked to avoid the area. There is no threat to public safety however there will be an escalated level of Police presence while the investigation continues. ^dm

The pair got into an altercation and the 51-year-old allegedly repeatedly punched the man and struck him with a baseball bat.
The man left the home and went to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Officers arrived on scene and arrested the 51-year-old. Police say charges are pending.
One person has been taken into custody in regards to the assault investigation. Area residents can expect a continued police presence as investigators will be remaining on scene. Further updates will be provided via media release at a later time today.

There was a large police presence in the area Thursday morning.
